Harbhajan Singh takes a dig at India’s T20 squad ahead of the World Cup

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his thoughts on the squad that is going for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the West Indies.

New Delhi: Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his thoughts on the squad that is going for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the West Indies. In an exclusive interview with the ANI, Singh remarked that India will be missing the dynamic batting of Rinku Singh in the middle order. Moreover, drafting 4 spinners in the main squad is a bit too much according to Singh.

Rinku still has not been included in the main squad and is there in the reserves. The left-hand batsman who plays for KKR in IPL made his T20I debut against Ireland in 2023. Since then he has played 15 matches and 11 innings where he has scored 356 runs at an average close to 90 and a whopping strike rate of around 180. However, Rinku’s form in the IPL season and the lack of runs might turn out to be a huge stumbling block for Rinku. The left-hander has managed only 168 runs in 11 innings at a meagre average of 18.66.’

He also said that playing 4 spinners is a bit too much for the men in blue. “I do not think we will ever play four spinners in a game. Ravindra Jadeja will play….” Naturally, it will be interesting to watch what combination Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid go ahead with.

Harbhajan Singh-“I am sure we will win against Pakistan….”

Harbhajan reckons that India’s actual tournament will begin once the team goes into the Super Eight. When asked about whether the boys are ready to take on the challenge of Pakistan who are slotted in the same group as India, the former Indian spinner was confident that the boys were ready for their arch-rivals.

Singh also shed some light on the selection of the much-contested wicketkeeper-batsman position in the playing XI. The former Indian spinner believes that Sanju Samson should get a chance ahead of the exciting talent of Rishabh Pant.

Harbhajan has acknowledged the fact that Pant has a strong middle-order experience over Sanju Samson. However, Pant has been out of competitive cricket for a long time and will take some time to return to form while Samson’s leadership and batting skills will be a great asset for Team India in tough situations.
