‘He could definitely play…’: Moeen Ali backs MS Dhoni to play IPL next year

Commenting on Dhoni’s performance in the season, he expressed that he ‘could definitely’ play in IPL 2024.

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings batter Moeen Ali revealed that skipper MS Dhoni may play the next season of the IPL. With a lot of speculations around Dhoni’s retirement from IPL, this might be good news for CSK fans. Commenting on Dhoni’s performance in the season, he expressed that he ‘could definitely’ play in IPL 2024.

Talking about Dhoni’s batting, Moeen said that the way he’s playing, his batting will not be something that stops him from playing, even for the next two or three years. He added that he was not surprised to see Dhoni bat like that against RR after watching him in the nets. About Dhoni’s finishing skills, he said that it is ‘amazing’ to see that from somebody at that age and it is not easy when you come in so late in the batting order.

In the game against RR, Dhoni scored a cracking 32* off 17 but CSK lost the game by 3 runs as after getting hit for two sixes, Sandeep Sharma nailed his yorkers.

In the interview with ESPNCricinfo, about his game against RR, he said that it was ‘terrible’. He scored only 7 off 10 with the bat and with the ball, he picked the wicket of Jos Buttler but went for 21 runs in two overs.

He also mentioned that he is getting ready for the ICC Men’s World Cup later this year in India where England will look to defend their title. He said that he wants his bowling to be back where he knows it can be. Ali said that since his retirement from Test cricket, he is putting more energy to spin to the white ball but his body is not aligned well.

Chennai Super Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 17 from 7:30 pm onwards.
