‘He has saved runs for…’: Ishan Kishan backs skipper Rohit Sharma on his poor form in IPL (WATCH)

Acknowledging the dip in runs, Ishan added that even big players struggle sometimes.

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is going through a dip in his form in IPL 2023 as he has not been able to reach the double digits in the last five innings. On the other hand, his opening partner Ishan Kishan’s knock laid the foundation for MI’s unbelievable victory against RCB. Kishan opened up about Rohit’s form and backed him to score big in playoffs.

Talking to Harbhajan Singh and Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports, Kishan said that Rohit is not ‘panicking’ because of his form, and during practice sessions, he is focused on the process. Acknowledging the dip in runs, Ishan added that even big players struggle sometimes.

Backing his skipper, the youngster said that he feels that Rohit has saved runs for the playoffs, to which former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar added that he might have saved runs for the World Test Championship final.

In the game against RCB, Mumbai Indians chased 200 in just 16.3 overs after Suryakumar Yadav scored 83 off 35 hitting 7 fours and 6 sixes. Ishan Kishan scored a crucial 42 off 21 at the top after Rohit departed for 7(8) getting lbw by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Rohit Sharma’s form has been a matter of concern for MI fans and even for Indian cricket fans as his form is crucial for the WTC final against Australia. Sharma has scored 191 runs in 11 innings at an average of 17.36 and a strike rate of 124.83. While he started the tournament by scoring 20-odd runs at a good strike rate and even hit a fifty, but, he went terribly out of form in the second half of the IPL.

After the last win, MI stands in the third position on the points table with 12 points. The team will face defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat Giants at Wankhede on May 12.
