According to the latest report by ICC, the Cricket World Cup 2023 generated a whopping Rs 11,637 cr for the Indian economy.

New Delhi: According to the latest report by ICC, the Cricket World Cup 2023 generated a whopping Rs 11,637 cr for the Indian economy. The report was first released by the Economic Impact Assessment of Nielsen.

In the recent statement released by ICC, the apex body stated-

A new economic report released today by the International Cricket Council (ICC) reveals that the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the biggest Cricket World Cup ever, generated an incredible total economic impact of USD1.39 billion (INR 11,637 Crores) for the economy of India…

Although the tournament ended in Australia’s favour as they thrashed the men in blue on November 19 2023, the economic benefits reaped by the Indian economy as well as the BCCI are bound to have a profound impact in the coming day.

“1.25 million spectators attended the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023…”- ICC

ICC also highlighted the fact that substantial investments from the global body (ICC) and the BCCI along with infrastructural help from local state associations reaped economic benefits for stakeholders outside the ambit of cricket.

The body also shared interesting statistics which stated, “A record-breaking 1.25 million spectators attended the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023…” Out of the total population around 75% were attending an ICC Men’s CWC 50-over match for the first time ever.

Furthermore, around 55% of the international respondents had previously visited India regularly, whilst an injection of new visitors thanks to the World Cup saw 19% of international attendees making their first ever visit to the country.

Ancillary benefits

However, it is not only the economic benefit that was in favour of ICC and BCCI. According to ICC, 48,000 full-time and part-time jobs were created during this entire World Cup campaign.

So, to conclude however ironic it may sound, India’s loss to Australia may not have brought the World Cup back home, but it has drawn substantial investments towards the country overall!
