New Delhi: The Women’s Cricket World Cup organised by the International Cricket Council starts today, that is, March 4. The opening game of the tournament will be played between New Zealand and West Indies.
This is the 12th edition of the quadrennial event with New Zealand hosting it for the third time. Before the commencement of the tournament quickly look at the format, teams and their squads, schedule, venues, and prize money associated with it.
ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022: The Format
The tournament has eight teams in total where all the teams will be playing against each other once in a league format which will be Round-Robin. This suggests that each team will be playing against the other only once.
At the end of the Round-Robin league, the top four teams with the highest points in the point table will qualify for the semi-final.
In the semi-final, the first team in the points table with the highest points will lock horns with the third team on the points table. Again, the second team will play against the fourth team on the points table. Lastly, the winners of the semi-final will lock horns against each other on April 3.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022: Prize money
Reportedly, the prize money has been increased by the ICC two-folds with the champions of the tournament getting a whopping amount of $1.32 million which is roughly equal to Rs 10.5 crore. On the other hand, the runners-up would receive $600,000 which is almost equal to Rs 4.5 crore. Besides, the teams that will qualify for the semi-final but failed to move to the final would receive $300,000 which is roughly equal to Rs 2.28 crore.
The rest of the teams will get $70,000 each for playing in the World Cup while a win at the league stage will secure a team $25,000 which roughly equals Rs 19 Lakh.
