ICC World Cup 2023: Kohli and Shami favourites, check who else are nominated for the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award

Four Indians have made it to the final nominee list for the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award.

New Delhi: ICC World Cup 2023, has finally reached its conclusion phase, with India taking on Australia in the tournament finals on Sunday, November 19.

India will be playing their 4th final, previously featuring in the 1983, 2003 and 2011 World Cup finals, and managing to emerge victorious in two of them.

Australia, on the other hand, will be featuring in their eighth World Cup final, winning on five instances earlier.

The tournament began with 10 teams and more than 150 players, giving their all to attain the ultimate glory of being called the World Champions.

Throughout the tournament, fans witnessed a number of scintillating performances from these players to take their individual teams forward.

However, only a few managed to be consistent with their performances and presented their contendership for the ‘Man of the Tournament’ title.

On Saturday morning, ICC finally released the list of the final 9 players who are nominated for the coveted prize.

1] Virat Kohli (India)

Virat Kohli

Indian batting virtuoso Virat Kohli, made it to the final list as only a few people are having a more successful campaign than the Indian veteran, who has accumulated 711 runs in 10 matches at an average of 101.57 and also has one wicket under his name.

 

2] Mohammed Shami (India)

MD Shami

No other player in the tournament has made more impact than the Indian pacer, who, despite missing the first four matches, managed to climb the top of the top wicket-takers list with 23 wickets in just 6 matches with an outrageous average of 9.13.

 

3] Rohit Sharma (India)

Rohit Sharma

The hitman has redefined the means of short but crisp, with his back-to-back short yet impactful innings on the top, setting a perfect tone for the upcoming batsmen to follow.

Hitman has scored 550 runs in 10 matches with an average of 55 and is one of the favourites to win the title.

 

4] Jasprit Bumrah (India)

The Indian pacer is the fourth Indian on the list, and just like his skipper, he has been doing the job of creating pressure with his accurate line and lengths and giving the rest of his teammates to finish off the job.

Bumrah has taken 18 wickets in 10 matches with an incredible average of 18.33.

 

5] Adam Zampa (Australia)

Adam Zampa

The Aussie spinner has enjoyed an impactful season with 22 wickets in 10 matches, with an average of 21.41.

Adam Zampa is one of the reasons why Australia made it to the finals despite their worst start of the World Cup since 1992.

 

6] Glenn Maxwell (Australia)

The prolific Australian batsman played one of the best cricket innings ever when he scored 2018 from 129 deliveries to take his team home from a dire situation. Maxwell also scored the fastest ODI World Cup century in just 40 balls.

Maxwell has scored a total of 398 runs in 8 matches with an average of 66.33.

 

7] Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)

The young New Zealand southpaw enjoyed a dream World Cup debut season and became the batsman to score the most runs in his debut World Cup by scoring 578 runs in 10 matches with an average of 64.22.

 

8] Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand)

Daryl Mitchell

The New Zealand striker was the backbone of the Kiwi middle order, with a total of 552 runs in 10 matches with an average of 69.

He was the only batsman in the tournament to score a century against the Indian bowling unit, and he did it in both the matches he played against them.

 

9] Quinton de Kock (South Africa)

Quinton de Kock

The South African opener also enjoyed a dream last World Cup season, as he had already announced before the World Cup that the mega event was going to be his last white ball appearance for the South African national team.

He scored 594 runs in 10 matches with an average of 59.40 but once again failed to reach the finals of the World Cup.

Previous Man of the Tournament winners

The Man of the Tournament award started in the 1992 World Cup, which was also the first World Cup with coloured jerseys.

There has been a total of 8 winners till date, with two of them being Indians.
