New Delhi: The Pakistan cricket team received a lifeline on Monday after they beat Bangladesh with 7 wickets and 105 balls to spare.
Bangladesh cricket team, with their loss against Pakistan, have become the first team to be eliminated from the ICC World Cup 2023.
Pakistani team have jumped to the number 5 spot on the points table and will be closely monitoring the remaining matches of Australia and New Zealand in the hope that one of the two falls flat so they can replace them in the points top 4 of the points table.

As it happened
In the battle of survival at Eden Gardens on Monday, the Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.
Pakistani bowlers started the game on high as their premier bowler, Shaheen Afridi, sent Bangladeshi opener Tanzid Hasan (0) packing in the first over itself.
Shaheen Afridi, alongside Haris Rauf, kept taking wickets at regular intervals to reduce Bangladesh to 23 for 3.
Litton Das (45) and Mahmadullah (56) added 79 runs for the fourth wicket, giving the Tigers a fighting chance, but that too went in vain.
Apart from them, skipper Shakib Al Hasan (43) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (25) were the only Bangladeshi batsmen to put some sort of fight in front of the Pakistani team as they were all out on a sub-par total of 204 in 45.1 overs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Md. Wasim Jr. was Pakistan’s pick of the day with the ball, as both of them picked 3 wickets each. Haris Rauf got 2, while Usama Mir and Iftikhar Ahmed got one wicket each under their name.
Pakistan came out all guns blazing in the chase as they added 128 runs for the first wicket in just 126 balls.

Openers Abdullah Shafique (68) and Fakhar Zaman (81), scored a fast-paced fifty to take the team close to the finish line before Md. Rizwan (26*) and Iftikhar Ahmed (17*) gave the finishing punch to win the match by 7 wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the only successful bowler for the Bangladeshi team, with 3 wickets under his belt.
Bangladesh, after getting eliminated from the ICC World Cup 2023, will now be looking to fight for their pride and a spot at the Champions Trophy 2025.
