New Delhi: The New Zealand cricket team on Thursday, defeated Sri Lanka with 5 wickets and 160 balls to spare and have almost booked their tickets for Mumbai to face India in the semifinals.
Even though both Pakistan and Afghanistan are still in contention for the semifinal spot mathematically, it is something that is practically impossible to achieve.
To qualify, Pakistan have to score 300+ runs while batting first and then win the match by a margin of 287 runs, or if batting second, they have to chase whatever target has been given to them in 2.3 overs.
Pakistan, who made a strong comeback after a jittery middle phase of the tournament, has to pull a miracle to set up a 2011 World Cup semifinal rematch.

According to former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram, the only way Pakistan can still qualify for the semifinals is if they bat first, put 300+ on board and then lock the English players’ dressing room and get them timed out in 20 minutes.
