ICC World Cup 2023: Here are Top 5 run-scorers of tournament, ‘King’ Kohli is the table-topper

Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 673 runs record on Wednesday, to go top of the list.

New Delhi: ICC World Cup 2023, has reached its endgame, and is only one game away from crowning a new world champion of ODI cricket.

The tournament started with 10 teams, and after a number of great matches and individual performances, 4 teams made it to the final four, and after two nail-biting semifinals, only two teams were left to battle it out for the biggest prize of them all.

Hosts India, or the five-time champions Australia, will take on each other in the all-important finals on Sunday at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Even though cricket is a team game and requires collective efforts of all members to secure the win, they also need some extraordinary individual performances to top it off, sometimes even more than one.

Today, we will take a look at the Top batters who have led their team from the front in the ICC World Cup 2023, till now.

1] Virat Kohli (India)- 711 runs

The Indian veteran once again proved, why he is hailed as the ‘King of Cricket’ by the whole world. Virat played a number of match-winning knocks throughout the World Cup and broke multiple records to take the top spot on the batters list.

In the semifinals against New Zealand, Virat broke Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time ODI century and most runs in one single edition of the World Cup record to go to the top of the batters list in the World Cup 2023, and with one match still to go, he will definitely try to add more runs to make his already legendary run even more so.

2] Quinton de Kock (South Africa)- 594 runs

The South African Southpaw announced before the World Cup that the mega event was going to be their last outing as an ODI cricketer for the South African national team, which put a lot of pressure on him to get himself a worthy sendoff.

Quinton didn’t disappoint his fans and piled up a massive 594 runs with the help of 4 incredible centuries. However, his dream to take his team to their first-ever World Cup final was once again cut short after losing out to the Aussies in the semifinals, calling curtains to his short but legendary ODI career.

3] Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)- 578 runs

The breakout star from Wellington enjoyed a dream debut session at the World Cup and became the player with the most runs in their first World Cup edition with 578 runs.

The 23-year-old’s journey came to an end in the semifinals, but he showed everyone that the future of cricket is in safe hands.

4] Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand)- 552 runs

Daryl Mitchell

The prolific Kiwi striker Daryl Mitchell proved his mantel by scoring back-to-back centuries against the mightiest bowling line-up of the tournament, i.e., the Indian bowling unit.

However, despite scoring centuries, he was unable to take his team over in either of the matches, as his journey finally came to an end after losing out to men in blue in the finals.

5] Rohit Sharma (India)- 550 runs

The Indian skipper is one of the biggest reasons behind India’s success at the ICC World Cup 2023, not just because of his exceptional captaincy but also because of his fiery batting at the start of every Indian innings.

Rohit Sharma gives an attacking start to his team, providing a much-needed breathing space for the upcoming batsmen, and despite only having one century and two half-centuries in the tournament, he still manages to break into the top 5 list, proving what class of player Rohit is.
