Indian management anticipated the role of spin and having the powerplay bowling abilities of Washington Sundar, they handed him the ball to begin the inning. Sundar delivered by picking Quinton de Kock in the third over. It was followed by two wickets by Mohammed Siraj and then it was the spin show that ruled over the capital. Heinrich Klaasen tried to play it through but could muster only 34 off 42 deliveries before Shahbaz Ahmed, who is playing his first ODI series, knocked him out in the 25th over.

The South African inning could only last for 27.1 overs as David Miller did not get a good start to his ODI captaincy. For India Shubman Gill, who was looking to be in good touch, also converted this time. He with a good strike rate, but could not finish the chase as he got out on 49 off 57. Captain Shikhar Dhawan could not contribute much as he got run out on 8(14). Shreyas Iyer stood and finished the matter with a six.

Meanwhile, India reaches the top of the Super League table as they win the series 2-1 and on the other hand, things look bleak for South Africa. It is likely that the Proteas will be playing the qualifiers for the ICC Men’s World Cup next year.
