“India are the biggest threat for me…” former Australia skipper Michael Clarke analyses the Indian side

According to Clarke India’s spin artillery can be nullified if the batsmen learn to tackle the spin.

New Delhi: With the T20 World Cup just days away from starting, everyone has their eyes set on some “potential” teams who can win the prized silverware. Team India undoubtedly is one of the prime favourites to win the same. Under the aegis of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, the men in blue have gone from strength to strength to maintain their dominance in world cricket.

This time also Team India has fielded a strong team with both experience and youth simultaneously. However, former Australian captain Michael Clarke feels that India has left many potholes in their attempt to build a strong squad for the upcoming World Cup. According to Clarke, going in a WC with four spinners leads to a huge liability rather than an asset. Moreover, India also needs to sort out the jigsaw puzzle of whom to play and whom to drop. India has gone ahead with 4 spinners- Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

India have taken a risk with the squad….“- Michael Clarke

According to Clarke India’s spin artillery can be nullified if the batsmen learn to tackle the spin. In the Caribbeans, it is much more important in the way one plays the spin. However, Clarke dismisses the fact that Team India is only ‘all-show’ and has nothing ‘substantial’ to show. India is clearly one of the strong contenders of the tournament from the sheer fact that the crop of players that are coming into the national side are having ample amount of game time in the T20Is from the recently concluded IPL.

Clarke further added, “If you look at the favourites for the World Cup it’s got to be India just because of the amount of cricket they have played…” India play their first group game on June 5 against Ireland before taking on their arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9. However, both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid know that the real deal starts from the Super 8.
