INDW vs AUSW, First T20I 2024: Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma scored brilliant fifties to complete the chase, after Titas Sadhu’s rampage with the ball.

New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team and the Australian women’s cricket team have finally reached the final stage of their three-format tour, as there are only two more T20Is left before the Aussies will be heading back home.

So far in the tour, the Indian women’s team and Australian women’s teams have won one series each, as the women in blue grabbed the victory in the one-off test series, while the Aussie women dominated the ODI series by 3-0.

For the final stage, both teams locked horns against each other in the first T20I on Friday, as the women in blue take the early lead in the series, with their all-round performance.

Indian bowlers completely dominated the Aussie batting line-up, taking the upper hand in the match, before Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma got the job done with the bat, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

As it happened

Earlier, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and invited the Australian team to bat first.

Indian bowlers put the Australian team under early pressure, as they reduced the visitors to 33 for four after the first powerplay.

However, Ellyse Perry (37) and Phoebe Litchfield (49) led the Aussie’s resurrection by adding 79 runs for the fifth wicket before Indian bowlers made a strong comeback to finish the Aussie innings with 141 on the board.

Titas Sadhu was the most successful bowler for the women in blue, with four wickets under her belt. Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma took two wickets each, while Renuka Singh and Amanjot Kaur took one wicket each.

In reply, the women in blue, with the help of Smriti Mandhana (54) and Shafali Verma (64*), got themselves over the line with nine wickets and 14 balls to spare.

Georgia Wareham was the only successful Aussie bowler with one wicket under her name.

The second match of the series will be played on Sunday, January 7, at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
