INDW vs AUSW, ODI Series: Richa Ghosh’s valiant effort goes in vain as Aussies seals the series

INDW vs AUSW, ODI Series: Harmanpreet and company will now look to register a win in the last match of the series to get at least something out of the series.

New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team, despite their valiant efforts in the second one-day international against the Australian women’s team, fell short in the run chase as the visitors took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.

The women in blue, after defeating the mighty Australian team for the first time in the test series, were hoping to better their records against the same side in the ODI series as well.

However, the Australian women’s team, with their all-round efforts, continued their dominance in the 50-over format over the women in blue to register their 42nd win in the 52nd match played between the two sides.

Harmanpreet and company will now look to register a win in the last match of the series to get at least something out of the series.

The final match of the series will be played on January 2nd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As it happened

Australian women’s team skipper Alyssa Haley won the toss and opted to bat first.

Indian bowlers got a great start as they dismissed the Aussies captain Alyssa Haley (13), cheaply.

Phoebe Litchfield (63) and Ellis Perry (50), score their second consecutive fifties in the series to rebuild the Australian innings.

Indian bowlers made a comeback with quick wickets, but Alana King (28*) and Kim Garth (11*) played some handy shots in the final overs of the innings to take the Australian total to 258 for 8 in 50 overs.

Deepti Sharma was the most successful bowler for the Indian side, with her impressive spell of 5 for 38 in 10 overs.

In reply, India also lost their first wicket cheaply, as the opener, Yastika Bhatia (14), was removed early.

Richa Ghosh (96), who fell only four short of a well-deserved 100, first with Smriti Mandhana (34) and then with Jemimah Rodrigues (44), stitched two good partnerships, but failed to take her team over the line, as the Aussies registered a close three runs victory to take the match and the series home.

Annabelle Sutherland was the best bowler for the Australian women’s team, with an impressive spell of 3 for 47.

Sutherland was also named player of the match for her all round performance in the match.
