IPL 2022: Rovman Powell’s 6 over-boundaries against SRH strikes comparison with Livingstone

He has hit 6 sixes during his blistering knock of 35-ball 67. Powell smashed the SRH’s best bowlers namely Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi.

New Delhi: Rovman Powell is reaching for the stars! The Delhi Capitals cricketer believes that he can break the longest over-boundary record of Liam Livingstone in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Powell has been in great form this season and contributed a good amount to his team. The West Indies star is confident to hit some of the maximums as IPL 2022 is coming to an end.

The 28-year-old batsman while speaking to his teammate David Warner and assistant coach Shane Watson after Delhi Capital’s massive win against Sunrisers Hyderabad explained his power-hitting technique. Powell made his debut for Delhi Capitals this season and has scored 144 runs in 10 matches with a strike rate of 161.

Meanwhile, Livingstone hit the biggest six of 117 metres in IPL 2022 in Punjab King’s win over Gujarat Titans on Wednesday.  Notably, Albie Morkel in 2008 hit the longest six of 125 m – in the history of IPL.

On Thursday, Powell was in the mood as he secured a 122-run stand with David Warner. He has hit 6 sixes during his blistering knock of 35-ball 67. Powell smashed the SRH’s best bowlers namely Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi. Furthermore, Powell hit the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 (at 157 kph) from Umran to the boundary yesterday night.

“I think I can get there, I even said yesterday to Mandeep that I am going to hit the ball close to 130m. Let’s see how it goes!,” Powell told IPLT20.com.

“The key is to not try and overhit the ball. Once you get into good positions, once you get a good base, it’s just about the core. My core is strong and then, on good wickets, I can swing through the line, hit the ball across the line. That’s basically what I do. I give myself a chance and use the depth of the crease so that I can get under the balls when they try to bowl full,” Powell added.

Powell and Warner

Warner scored 92* with Powell smashing a six and 3 boundaries in the final over in the DC’s innings against Umran. Warner and Powell’s partnership helped the team score a massive 207.
