IPL 2023: Abhishek Porel joins DC in place of Rishabh Pant, Sandeep Warrier replaces Jasprit Bumrah

Rishabh Pant, who captained Delhi Capitals, has been replaced by wicket-keeper Abhishek Porel while Sandeep Warrier has come in place of Jasprit Bumrah in the Mumbai Indians camp.

New Delhi: Even before the IPL 2023 could begin, it was clear that two big names will not be able to join their respective franchises this year. Rishabh Pant, who captained Delhi Capitals, has been replaced by wicket-keeper Abhishek Porel while Sandeep Warrier has come in place of Jasprit Bumrah in the Mumbai Indians camp.

Rishabh Pant got injured in a near-fatal road accident and he will need a long time to fully recover and get back on the field. Meanwhile, Bengal’s wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel has joined DC. He has played 16 First-Class matches, three List A and three T20s in his small career.

Bumrah, who is out of the action for a long time due to his back injury, has been replaced by pacer Sandeep Warrier. He has played a total of 68 T20s and picked up 62 wickets. He has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore sides and has played five IPL games. He has also played a T20I for India against Sri Lanka, where he could not pick a wicket and India lost after a poor batting show.

DC has bought Porel for Rs 20 Lakh while MI brought Sandeep Warrier for Rs 50 Lakh.

As Pant was ruled out of the tournament, DC named David Warner as the captain and Axar Patel as his deputy. While the Capitals had Phil Salt as a wicketkeeper, he also filled a foreign player slot and they tried Sarfaraz Khan with the gloves in the training session. Porel is not expected to start in the playing XI, he might feature in the later half of the tournamnet.
