Williamson has got a severe injury on his knee and is likely to miss a few games in the tournament.

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans won the curtain-raiser against Chennai Super Kings, but the team suffered a big blow as their ace batter and the Kiwi captain Kane Williamson got injured. Williamson has got a severe injury on his knee and is likely to miss a few games in the tournament. His stunning jump at the boundary rope saved two runs for the team but gave another concern to worry about.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead also called the injury a ‘big blow’ from the World Cup’s point of view, which indicates that the matter is serious. GT captain Hardik Pandya confirmed that it was the knee that got injured and the batter has been sent for scans, however, there is no update as of now.

Some reports have suggested that Kane Williamson might get ruled out of the tournament but an official confirmation is awaited.

Ruturaj Gaikwad went for a big shot at the deep-square leg where Williamson attempted a catch, but fell outside the boundary line. While he could not complete the catch, he managed to save two crucial runs for his team. Williamson could not get up after the fall and the medical staff had to take him for a checkup.

While he did not come back to the field, in the second inning, he was replaced by Sai Sudharsan under the Impact Player rule. Sudharsan scored a decent 22 off 17 in the winning cause. Ruturaj, who was playing at 71 off 36 when Williamson got injured, went on to score a whopping 92 off 50.
