IPL 2023 GT vs MI: Shubman Gill hits 3rd ton of season as Titans score 233

Gill stepped out, showed class and even hit a 106-metre six to score 129 off 60 as he targeted MI’s ace bowlers.

New Delhi: Shubman Gill blasted his third century of the season at a crucial stage as Gujarat Titans put up a whopping 233 on the board for Mumbai Indians. Gill stepped out, showed class and even hit a 106-metre six to score 129 off 60 as he targeted MI’s ace bowlers. Skipper Hardik Pandya hit 28* off 13 to finish the inning for GT.

After a bit of slower start, Gill changed the gears and took the control of the game. He hit 10 sixes and 7 fours in his knock and with Wriddhiman Saha, he laid an opening stand of 54 runs. It was the 138-run stand between Gill and Sai Sudharsan laid the stage for the big total. Thrashing records, Gill became only the second batter after Michael Klinger to score three hundreds in four T20 innings.

While Akash Madhwal and Chirs Jordan went for 50+ runs in their four overs, MI’s ace bowler Piyush Chawla ended up with 45/1 in three overs. Jason Behrendorff was economical with 28 in four overs and Kumar Karthikeya gave 15 in his two.

Sudharsan got retired hurt 43 off 31 to pave the way for Rashid Khan in the end while it was Hardik Pandya who did the job with a four and a six to end the innings.

Akash Madhwal picked Shubman Gill as the ball landed in the hands of Tim David. Gill’s wicket ensured that GT ends with 8-10 runs less than what they actually could have scored.

This IPL season has seen big chases by the MI line-up and has witnessed hundreds being going in vain and MI will hope the same. Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green in their top form with Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Varma, MI has one of the most deadliest batting line-up of IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field after the game was delayed by wet outfield.
