New Delhi: KKR scored a dominating victory over RCB at the Eden Gardens as they won by 81 runs. While Shardul Thakur’s 68 off 29 was the highlight of the show, KKR’s new mystery spinner Suyash Sharma became one of the most talked-about points in the game. The debutant came in as an impact player and picked up three wickets to kill RCB’s last hope.
The leg-break bowler was a mystery, not because he was playing his first-ever senior professional game but because of his action that allows him to bowl off-break in an unpredictable manner. His action also involves a jerk as his head goes up just before he bowls.
The 19-year-old spinner hails from Delhi and has played for the city in the U-25 tournaments. KKR’s love affair with mystery spinners continues as they bought him at a base price of Rs 20 lakh during the mini-auction. He played his first-ever T20 game at this level, before last night, he had no T20, First class or List A games to his name.
Suyash came in for the 11th over when RCB stood at 69/5 chasing 205. Bowling his first over, the leggie was not in much control and bowled a short ball against Michael Bracewell, which was punished for a six. Coming in his second over, he improved his length and got Anuj Rawat on the second delivery as the batter got a top edge and found the fielder at short third. He also got Dinesh Karthik in the same over and with him went all of RCB’s hope to chase the mammoth total. Karn Sharma tried to sweep him but found Nitish Rana in slips.
