IPL 2023 RR vs DC: Trent Boult, spinners guide Royals to comfortable win as DC’s poor run continues

First, the quick fifties by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler and then a 3-fer by Trent Boult set the stage for yet another loss for the Capitals.

New Delhi: An all-round performance by Rajasthan Royals has won them the game against Delhi Capitals by 57 runs. First, the quick fifties by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler and then a 3-fer by Trent Boult set the stage for yet another loss for the Capitals. DC has not been able to play well in any department and fans must be missing Rishabh Pant here.

David Warner scored a slow fifty, but in vain. His 64-run partnership with Lalit Yadav, who scored 38 off 24, must have provided some hope, but wickets falling regularly could not save DC.

Trent Boult laid the foundation of the batting collapse as he dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey in the first over. Sanju Samson caught a one-hand stunner behind the stumps to get impact player Shaw on a duck while Boult trapped Pandey lbw on the next delivery as he began the inning with yet another double-wicket maiden.

Rilee Rossouw went for a reverse sweep against Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaiswal picked a forward diving catch. The 64-run stand for the fourth wicket was also broken by Boult as Lalit Yadav got an inside edge onto the stumps.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked two wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal ended up with three, including getting Warner for 65 off 55. Sandeep Sharma bowled economically and managed to pick a wicket in the 20th over.

In the first inning, Yashasvi Jaiswal began the inning with five fours in the first over and scores 60 off 31, hitting 11 fours and a six. Jos Buttler was dropped by Anrich Nortje on 18 and he went on to score 79 off 51. While they set the stage for the inning with their 98-run stand, Shimron Hetmyer gave a fine finish to help Royals score 199. He scored 39* off 21, hitting one four and four sixes while Dhruv Jurel started off with a six and managed 8* off 3.

Mukesh Kumar picked two wickets, dismissing both openers caught and bowled. On the other hand, Sanju Samson had to depart for a duck off Kuldeep Yadav’s wider ball, as he miss-hit and was caught by Nortje. Riyan Parag managed just 7(11) before Rovman Powell bowled him.

The difference in the innings was not just with the bat or the ball, but Royals fielded better than DC. The Capitals not only drop Buttler, but Shimron Hetmyer was also dropped on 15 and he went to provide a great finish while the bowlers held RR back with wickets.

The Capitals did three changes as they brough Manish Pandey, Lalit Yadav and Rovman Powell in place of Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan.
