IPL 2023: RR vs SRH: Chahal, Boult strike as Royals put up dominating win by 72 runs

Trent Boult set the precedent with a double-wicket maiden over and Yuzvendra Chahal followed by picking up four wickets.

New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals managed to steal the victory by quite a margin as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs. Trent Boult set the precedent with a double-wicket maiden over and Yuzvendra Chahal followed by picking up four wickets. Three quick fifties by Buttler, Samson and Jaiswal posted 203 on board, which was too much for SRH to chase today.

Mayank Agarwal tried fighting a lone battle for some time but Chahal got him too as he tried to smash it over long-off. Umran Malik and Abdul Samad smashed some boundaries but it was too late by then.

Trent Boult struck with a yorker to get Abhishek Sharma on the third delivery of the inning and got Rahul Tripathi on the fifth ball as Jason Holder took a great catch in slips. Just after the powerplay ended, Chahal came and bowled the danger-man Harry Brook, followed by Washington Sundar handing a catch to Hetmyer off Jason Holder’s delivery.

Chahal returned and took Mayank Agarwal and the attacking Adil Rashid out of the equation. Agarwal went back with 27 off 23 and Rashid could only contribute 18 off 13. The leggie ended up with the figures of 17/4 and announced his comeback with speed variations and hitting the right spots. Ravichandran Ashwin also got a wicket in Glenn Phillips.

Impact Player Abdul Samad scored run-a-ball 32* while Umran Malik hit 19* off 8 which was not enough.

In the first inning, Jos Buttler gave RR a cracking start as he scored 54 off 22 by hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal, coming after a great performance in the domestic circuit, scored 54 off 37 while captain Samson scored 55 off 32 to help Royals cross 200.

It was Fazhalhaq Farooqi and T Natarajan who managed to pick wickets and control runs while RR looked good enough to cross 215-220. Farooqi dismissed both Buttler and Jaiswal and bowled a brilliant final over giving just 10 runs. On the other hand, Natarajan, after getting hit for 17 runs in his first over, returned and picked two key wickets of Riyan Parag and Samson.
