IPL 2023: Who won the race for Orange Cap, Purple Cap? Check stats

Titans arguably had a the best bowling attack and the top three in the race for the purple cap were from GT.

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans lost the race to the title to Chennai Super Kings but dominated the race for the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap with Shubman Gill going back as the highest run scorer while Mohammed Shami was the highest wicket-taker.  Titans arguably had a the best bowling attack and the top three in the race for the purple cap were from GT.

Orange Cap

Shubman Gill had a dream come true IPL season as he replicated his international form in the league. Gill scored 890 runs including three centuries and four fifties this season and dominated the bowlers and the race for the Orange Cap. He has been the reason behind Gujarat Titans’ whopping victories and has played like a star. Gill had an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80.

Faf du Plessis was leading the race for the longest time, followed by Virat Kohli but the batters could not continue their run as RCB was eliminated in the league stage. RCB skipper du Plessis scored 730 runs at an average of 56.15 and a strike rate of 153.68. Devon Conway ended third on the list as he scored 672 runs in 15 innings, including 47 off 25 in the finals.

Purple Cap

The race for the Purple Cap was controlled by the Titans with three frontrunners in Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and Mohit Sharma. Shami took home the purple cap with 28 wickets in 17 innings at an average of 18.64.

Mohit Sharma could not defend in the final over but ended up with 27 wickets in 14 innings including a 5-wicket haul. GT spinner Rashid Khan ended with 27 wickets in 17 innings.
