New Delhi: In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for Season 17, Australian cricketers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc secured the highest bidding price and were sold for a record-breaking amount of 20.50 crore & 24.75 crore respectively.
Cummins secured a monster payday of Rs 20.5 crore after being picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad while Kolkata Knight Riders picked Michtell Starc for Rs 40 crores.
Some other foreign players who bagged big contracts include Daryl Mitchell (Rs14 crore ) Rowman Powerll (Rs 7.40 crore), Travis Head (Rs 6.80 crore).
Given the staggering amount at which players have been signed by different franchisees, each player takes away astronomical amounts of money that no other sports offer.
Even, Australian players who fetched massive contracts in the IPL 2024 and are set to take home more than Rs 20 crores for just two-month event, they earn much lesser than this.
Huge earnings by IPL players, when calculated in terms of bowling, one finds that each ball thrown by bowlers cost in thousands & lakhs. For top bidding players like Starc, it runs into lakhs.
Mind-boggling numbers in IPL 2024
If Mitchell Starc plays all matches of the IPL 2024, his each ball will cost Rs 7,36,607/-. The astronomical figure is enough to give other sport a migraine.
The calculation is done in below fashion:
If Michell Starc plays all matches of the IPL Season 17, he along with his team would be playing a minimum 14 matches.
If he plays all matches and bowls the stipulated 4 overs in every match, he would be bowling a total of 336 balls.
Comparing the 336 balls with his IPL auction price of Rs 24.75 crore, one finds that for each ball, the Aussie pacer would be getting Rs 7,36,607/-.
