New Delhi: The Mega Auction for IPL 2025 is due to start next month. However, the franchises are finding it difficult to retain their top superstars owing to the retention rules likely to be announced by BCCI on October 31st.
The report states that agents of several star players, particularly overseas, have been conducting discussions with other franchises, seeking to eke out the maximum market value for their clients. In such a case, they may not want to be retained and go against their original franchise’s wish. Moreover, the Right to Match (RTM) option has allowed players to want to test their market value and choose to not be retained, as per a report by Cricbuzz.
According to the RTM rules, franchises have several RTM cards which can allow players to open negotiations with other franchises to increase their base valuation. It will allow players to increase the market value of players who have been associated with a particular franchise for a long period. Moreover, with the retaining spots dwindling in number, there is a chance that many important players will go under the hammer in mouthwatering auctions coming up in the next month.
