IPL Auction 2022: Hugh Edmeades recovers after collapse, know about the Celebrity Auctioneer

Edmeades’s notable works include BBC’s celebrity auction for Children in Need, and auction at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Gala in London

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2022 came to a sudden halt in Bengaluru on Saturday as the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed midway through the LIVE action process.

The Auctioneer collapsed while franchise owners were bidding for players in the second session of IPL auction 2022.

The incident happened when an intense bidding war was going on for Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.

The celebrity auctioneer however recovered soon after losing consciousness & is said to be fine.

Hugh Edmeades’ tryst with the IPL began four years ago, when he took over as the auctioneer for players bidding. He was appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2018, replacing Richard Madley. This year, he was administering the bidding process for 4th consecutive term.

Being a native of Britain, Hugh is a renowned and well-known auctioneer having experience across wide array of fields. Ranging from auction of art pieces to vintage cars to James Bond’s Aston Martin, he has done it all.

In his 36-year-old career, Hugh has successfully conducted more than 2500 auctions all over the world.

The notable works of Edmeades also include BBC’s televised celebrity auction in aid of Children in Need in 2005 and in 2008 he was the auctioneer at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Gala in London.

He also lends his art in charity auctions and till date has conducted auction for over 850 fundraiser events in 30 cities across the world.
