Irani Cup: RoI beat MP by 238 runs following Yashasvi Jaiswal’s centuries

While Himanshu Mantri and Harsh Gwali tried their best, the tail collapsed quickly and RoI picked up the cup.

New Delhi: After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s centuries and the bowling line-up’s fierce attack, the Rest of India won the Irani Cup against Madhya Pradesh. RoI won with a huge margin of 238 runs after wrapping MP for 198 in the second inning. While Himanshu Mantri and Harsh Gwali tried their best, the tail collapsed quickly and RoI picked up the cup.

Madhya Pradesh’s captain Himanshu Mantri scored a fifty on day 4 but was given out caught behind in the first over of day 5. While the ball was close to the sticker, it did not touch the bat and what followed was a total batting collapse for MP.

Harsh Gawli and Aman Solanki had a 47-run partnership, trying to save an already lost battle. The partnership was broken by Atit Sheth as Solanki walked back at 31(45), and Sheth soon struck with a half volley to dismiss Saransh Jain. Pulkit Narang and Saurabh Kumar were clinical in dismissing the lower order and sealed the victory for RoI. Kumar picked up three wickets while Mukesh Kumar, Sheth and Narang got two each.

However, the match was a Yashasvi Jaiswal show, who scored a quick double ton in the first inning and 144 off 157 in the second inning. Abhimanyu Easwaran also scored a ton in the first inning to help RoI reach a total of 484.

Madhya Pradesh trailed by 190 runs after the first inning as Yash Dubey scored a ton and Gawli hit a fifty, while no other batter could contribute. Pulkit Narang picked four wickets in the first inning, including Yash Dubey. Pacers Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar picked three and two wickets respectively.

RoI scored 246 in the second inning, giving MP a massive target of 437 runs. With the ball, Avesh Khan shined for MP by picking four wickets in the first inning and two in the second. Mayank Agarwal managed to lead his side to a victory, but could not contribute with the bat.
