Jeremy Lalrinnunga: Meet India’s 19-year-old ‘golden weightlifter’ from Mizoram

Lalrinnunga’s father was a known name in the field of boxing in Aizawl in the early 90s, and has five boys including Jeremy

New Delhi: A young 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga, hailing from the northeastern state of Mizoram created history by clinching India’s first gold in weightlifting in Men’s 67 kg category, in the ongoing Commonwealth games at Birmingham on Sunday.

Apart from nabbing the gold in a highly swinging event, Jeremy further made history by creating a Games record in the Snatch lifting 140 kgs. Not just that, the latter went on to lift 160 kg in clean and jerk in his second attempt, securing the 2nd gold for India in the CWG tournament.

However, despite putting on a stunning show at the renowned sports event, it was a bone-chilling experience to watch Lalrinnunga getting injured during his second attempt in snatch, and continuing the quest in such a state.
