Jhulan Goswami pens heartfelt note to announce retirement from all forms of cricket
In the letter, she acknowledged that every journey has to come to an end so, putting an end to her 20-year journey, she said goodbye to all forms of cricket.
New Delhi: After winning her final international game at Lord’s, Jhulan Goswami said goodbye to cricket. She shared a heartfelt note on her Twitter handle to mark the occasion. She started the note by writing, “So, the day has finally arrived!” and left her fans and the cricket fraternity emotional.
In the letter, she acknowledged that every journey has to come to an end so, putting an end to her 20-year journey, she said goodbye to all forms of cricket. She shared a quote from Earnest Hemingway saying, “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end.” She added that this has been an exhilarating and thrilling journey and said, “There is a sense of pride everytime I hear the National Anthem before a match.”
She wrote that cricket has given her the greatest gift in form of people, including her fans, teammates, competitors, journalists, match officials and many others. She is looking forward to contributing more to women’s cricket in India and hoped that she was successful in inspiring young girls.

Jhulan added, “Ever since watching the Women’s World Cup final at Eden Gardens back in 1997, it was my dream to play for India…” She thanked BCCI, CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal), WCAI (Women’s Cricket Association of India) and Air India for giving her opportunities. She also gave a special thanks to NCA for taking care of her injuries. She went on thanks coaches, trainers, physios, ground staff and all her captains.
She also showed gratitude to her family, friend and her childhood coach for their support. She ended the note by writing, “I have always loved you cricket and even if I retire as a professional player I will never be too far away from you.”
In her last game, she picked two wickets and ended up with figures of 10-3-30-2 to contribute to India’s historic win. She ends her career with 355 wickets in 284 international games.
