Kaneria Vs Afridi over ‘enemy’ nation: Cricketer slams ex-Pak skipper, says ‘India not…’

Danish Kaneria is one of the Hindu cricketers who made it to Pakistan national cricket team and faced ‘discrimination & humiliation’ by fellow cricketers.

New Delhi: Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has hit out at fellow cricketer and ex-Pak skipper Shahid Afridi for his instigating remarks against the neighbouring country. He also accused Afridi of instigating people in name of religion.

A day ago, when Afridi was asked about Kaneria’s charges of forcing him to convert, Afridi mocked the cricketer for giving interviews to enemy country.

Kaneria, taking exception to this, took to Twitter today and called him for instigating people in the name of religion.

“India is not our enemy. Our enemies are those who instigate people in the name of religion. If you consider India as your enemy, then don’t ever go to any Indian media channel,” Kaneria tweeted. The leg spinner has bagged 261 wickets in 61 Test matches for Pakistan.

Why Kaneria & Afridi at loggerheads

Danish Kaneria is one of the Hindu cricketers who made it to Pakistan national cricket team and faced ‘discrimination & humiliation’ by fellow cricketers. In an interview that made waves, Danish Kaneria had alleged that Afridi mistreated him for being a Hindu and also allegedly pressurized him to convert to Islam.

“Yes, Afridi used to often tell me to convert to Islam. But, I never used to take him seriously. I believe in my religion and it does not depend on cricket,” Kanera had told Zee News.

Days later, Afridi responded strongly to Kaneria’s accusation and asked the latter to first reform himself. Afridi also questioned his intent & asked why Kaneria didn’t complain it to Pakistan Cricket Control Board and used media channel to throw muck at him.

Afridi also slammed Kaneria for defaming Pakistan for alleged spot-fixing. Kaneria is currently under ban over alleged involvement in a spot-fixing case.

“He is accusing me to get cheap fame and make money. Everyone knows about his character,” said Afridi.
