Khelo India Youth Games: Haryana and Maharashtra vie for top slot in medals tally

There are at least 20 medals up for grabs in the boxing category and Haryana hopes to cash in on this. As of now, Haryana has 12 boxers in the finals while Maharashtra has just 4.

New Delhi: As the Khelo India Youth Games near closing, the athletes of Haryana & Maharashtra have made them proud. The athletes, putting their best feet forward and displaying extraordinary sporting skils, have notched more than 40 gold medals and are now vying to win the coveted top spot in medals tally.

Interestingly, Haryana is hosting the Khelo India Youth Games while Maharashtra is the defending champion. Both teams snatched 5 gold medals each on Sunday and are now battling it for the top slot by laying claim over more medals on closing day of the Games.

Till last reports came in, Maharashtra had 42 gold, 35 silver and 30 bronze medals in its kitty while Haryana bagged 41 gold, 35 silver and 42 bronze medals.

On final day, boxers bolster Haryana’s hopes

As the Games enter final lap, Haryana has high hopes from its boxers, who have proven record of demolishing the rivals at international stage also.

Khelo India Youth games -

There are at least 20 medals up for grabs in the boxing category and Haryana hopes to cash in on this. As of now, Haryana has 12 boxers in the finals while Maharashtra has just 4. Both states have their athletes in handball finals also and hope to bag claim over at least 1 gold. In Kho-Kho, Haryana & Maharasthra players are likely to excel as they have already made it to the finals.

In other games like basketball, badminton and table tennis, they are nowhere in race.

Khelo India Youth games -

Kerala is another team that has shown its dominance in Khelo India Youth Games. It continues to dominate Kalaripayattu events bagging 3 of 4 gold medals. Till last figures came, the statehas bagged 14 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze to maintain a spot in the Top Five. Karnataka is placed at Number 3 spot, largely banking on the stellar performance of its swimmers.
