With 7 Ballon d’Or, Golden Ball in the 2014 World Cup, a Copa America win and various other laurels, only the World Cup trophy was missing from Messi’s cabinet and now his dream has come true. In the game, Messi scored off a penalty and Angel Di Maria scored a spectacular goal in the first half to give Argentina a lead. Kylian Mbappe scored two back-to-back goals to level the score in the second half.

The game saw one more goal each from Messi and Mbappe as the teams entered the penalties. Martinez showed his class in the penalties and won the World Cup for Argentina.
