He could manage the best attempt of 7.94 m, which is far less than his performance of 8.08 m in the Commonwealth Games and his personal and season best of 8.36 m.

New Delhi: Murali Sreeshankar, who recently won a silver medal in the Birmingham games, ended up in the sixth position in the Diamond League, Monaco. He could manage the best attempt of 7.94 m, which is far less than his performance of 8.08 m in the Commonwealth Games and his personal and season best of 8.36 m.

He jumped 7.61 m in his first attempt battling the -1.5 m/s wind. In the next three attempts, he could manage 7.84 m, 7.83 m and 7.69 m. It was in his fifth and final attempt when he hit the 7.94 m mark. The wind made the conditions challenging for the jumpers.

The gold medal was won by Maykel Masso of Cuba as he jumped his season’s best of 8.35 m to finish on the top of the podium. While the reigning Olympic champion and silver medallist in the Oregon World Championships, Miltiadis Tentoglou won the silver medal in Monaco with a jump of 8.31 m. The bronze medal was earned by the USA’s Marquis Dendy who jumped his season’s best of 8.31 m.
