Meet 15 brave warriors of India’s women Champion Squad, who lifted U-19 T20 World Cup trophy

While Shafali Verma was to lead the team from the front, Shweta Shehrawat was the vice-captain. Each and every team member played efficiently in the match which led the country to win. 

New Delhi: India created history by defeating England by seven wickets to win the first-ever  Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. India needed 14 overs to complete the 69-run chase while only losing three wickets.

While Shafali Verma was to lead the team from the front, Shweta Shehrawat was the vice-captain. Each and every team member played efficiently in the match which led the country to win.

Here are the 15 players who were part of the champion team:

1. Shafali Verma

Being the captain, Shafali Verma has played well and did the role of captaincy very efficiently. Hailing from a small town of Rohtak, she played her debut at the age of 15 for a senior team. She is well-known for batting like Shehwag.

On the field front, she will be a part of upcoming T-20 World Cup.

2. Shweta Shehrawat

Shweta Shehrawat was the vice-captain of the winning tournament. She was the only player in the team to make the highest runs. Teaming with the captain of the match, Safali Verma, she was successful to give a good start to the nation in the tournament.

3. Soumya Tiwari

The middle-order batsman Soumya Tiwari played a efficient inning of 24 not out in the final match. She was born in Bhopal and is a huge fan og cricketer Virat kohli. Due to her admiration towards Virat Kohli, her teammates call her “Apni Virat”.

4. Gongadi Trisha

Gongadi Trisha contributed a vital 24 runs in the tournament final. She was born in Telangana’s Badrachalam. The father of Gongadi Trisha relocated to Hyderabad after quitting his job to support his daughter’s cricket career.

5. Richa Ghosh

A resident of Siliguri, wicket-keeper batsman Richa secured her place in the senior team at the age of 16. She has mastered the art of playing big shots. Ghosh also hols a record for fastest fifty in Women’s OCI for India and played some explosive innings in the T20 series against Australia.

6. Harshita Basu

Harshita Basu is also a wicketkeeper and has a ability to score fast runs coming down the order. Scoop shots is said to be one of the Harshita Basu’s favourite shot. She is born in Howrah and stays very active in the field.

7. Titas Sadhu

Titas Sahu was considered as the player of the match by taking two wickets in the final. She is termed as the future of the Indian team. Hailing from West Bengal, she is likely to be sold very expensively in the Women’s Premier League auction. She possess the ability to swing and bounce the ball just like Jhulan Goswani.

8. Mannat Kashyap

Mannat Kahyap took 9 wickets in 6 matces at an average of 10.33. Born in Patiala, she used to play cricket in her childhood mostly with the boys. Her cousin Nupur Kahyap is also a state level player.

9. Archana Devi

Being a spin bowler, Archana Devi played a crucial role in the victory of the Indian team. The 18-year-old has participated in all seven matches ad took a total of eight wickets. Archana’s mother is a single mother who worked as a laborer in other field.

10. Parshvi Chopra

Parshvi Chopra, a right-arm leg-spinner, recorded the most wickets for India during this event. Parshvi averaged seven wickets per game while taking 11 in 6 games. Parshvi originally intended to pursue skating, but at her father’s urging, she changed her mind and decided to play cricket.

11. Sonam Yadav

The father of Sonam Yadav works as a labourer in Firozabad. Although Sonam’s brother had a keen interest in cricket, his career never really took off. Sonam is a left-arm spinner who combines her pace and has a talent for throwing off the batsman.

12. Sopdanshi Yashashree

Hurley Gala’s injury led to the addition of Sopdandhi Yashashree to the team. In this tournament, Sopdandhi Yashashree participated in just one game, which was against Scotland. Right-handed medium pacer Sopdandhi Yashashree plays for Hyderabad in local cricket.

13. Falak Naz

Falak Naz, a fast bowler for his side, has a skiddy movement and is shorter than the other fast bowlers. However, Falak’s length and line continue to be precise, which helps her take wickets. The fact that Falak was unable to participate in even one game in this tournament is a different story. In Prayagraj, Falak Naz’s hometown, there was a raucous celebration following India’s victory.

14. Shabnam MD

Shabnam, a right-handed fast bowler, with a great runup and a high arm action. Shabnam, an Andhra Pradesh native who was born in Visakhapatnam, is accurate with the new ball right away and can swing it both ways. In this tournament, Shabnam was given the opportunity to compete in just two games.

15. Sonia Mendhia

Sonia Mendhia is an off-spinner and right-handed batter who competes for Haryana in domestic cricket. She bowls well and bats in the lower middle order, where she has the ability to slow the run rate in the middle overs. Sonia participated in a total of four T20 World Cup games.
