New Delhi: Pakistan’s poor performance against spin continues to be poor as the entire team folded out for a below-par score of 274. On a familiar Rawalpindi track, the men in green failed to tackle the bowling lineup of Bangladesh. Apart from Shan Masood, Agha Salman Khan and Saim Ayub none of the batters could stay on the crease for a long time.
The main problem for Pakistani batsmen was caused by the willy right-arm offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz who scalped 5 wickets from his spell of 22.1 overs. Mehidy’s spell proved to be the turning point for the visitors. The right-arm offspinner also played a pivotal role in the first test (with a spell of 4/21) where the Tigers won by 10 wickets.
Alongside, Mehidy, right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed also shouldered the responsibility to dismantle the Pakistani innings. Opener Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel and Salman Ali Agha were the three scalps of Taskin. The Bangladeshi pacer who is making a comeback to red-ball cricket after a long time period was visibly happy with his contribution and remarked:
It’s great to be back in red ball (cricket) after one-and-a-half years. I enjoyed that and adapted well.
What happened on Day 2?
Bangladesh survived a close and nervy final session of Day 2. However, barring the final session shocks, Pakistan never took the game away from the Tigers. Batting first, Pakistan could only manage 274 runs on the board.
Apart from Saim Ayub, Shan Masood and Agha Salman, not a single Pakistani batter managed to reach the half-century mark. The Bangladeshi bowling attack led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed ripped apart the entire Pakistani batting lineup.
