MS Dhoni reduced to an Uncapped Player for IPL 2025, is it over for THALA?

MS Dhoni who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings has been rumoured to become an uncapped player going ahead in the upcoming edition of the IPL 2025.

New Delhi: MS Dhoni who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings has been rumoured to become an uncapped player going ahead in the upcoming edition of the IPL 2025. With a mega auction coming up in the next year, all eyes will be on Thala who had dropped hints of a possible retirement from the game.

The main topics of discussion along with Dhoni’s mysterious journey ahead were topics like the Impact Player rule and increment or decrement of retention rules.

What is the retention rule for uncapped players?

According to the IPL charter, MS Dhoni qualifies as an uncapped player as he has not played for the national side for the last 5 years. Dhoni last donned the national jersey during the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Naturally, if the rule of the uncapped player comes back, Mahendra Singh Dhoni can expect a comeback in the IPL stage once again. According to the expected rules, if Dhoni becomes the uncapped player in the upcoming auction, the former Indian skipper can be retained with a possible position from the 4-5 player position which will be left vacant for the regular capped and foreign players.

However, the final decision on the same will come out once the retention and auction rules come out.
