New Delhi: Naren Muralitharan, son of the Sri Lankan cricketing legend Muttiah Muralitharan, was seen playing the two-day match between St. Joseph’s College and St. Peter’s College. It is being played over the course of 18th and 19th July.

The match was to be played on July 14 and 15, but was postponed due to the adverse political situation in Sri Lanka. It is an annual cricket encounter between the two schools, in which St. Joseph’s College leads with 12 wins under their belt, while St. Peter’s College has managed 10 wins. Also, 65 games between them have ended in a draw. This year they are playing the 88th encounter in the Battle of the Saints.

Naren Muralitharan plays for St. Joseph’s College and bowls right-arm leg-spin, unlike his father who bowled right-arm off-spin. Previously, Naren has played 3 games in which he took 4 wickets at an average of 14.75, with an economy rate of 3.47 runs-per-over. This year, both teams are captained by two talented Sri Lankan all-rounders. Shevon Daniel is the skipper for St. Joseph’s College and Wanuja Sahan for St. Peter’s College. Both of the captains have represented Sri Lanka at the Under 19 level.

Naren was recently seen imitating his father’s bowling action in the nets. The video of him bowling like Muttiah went viral on the internet. Muthaiah had a unique action with a unique arm, which helped him spin the ball much more compared to other finger spinners. He was popular for his ‘doosra’, which was really difficult for batters to read off his hands.

Muttiah Muralitharan holds the record for most Test and ODI wickets. He has taken 800 wickets in Test matches while 534 in ODIs.
