Neeraj Chopra fit to play in Lausanne Diamond League, last stop to qualify for finals

Neeraj is currently at fourth rank as he won a silver medal at the Stockholm Diamond League.

New Delhi: There is good news for Indian track and field fans, Neeraj Chopra is fit to play in the Lausanne Diamond League. He made the announcement through his Twitter handle. This will be his first event after recovering from the injury he got during the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

After missing the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Neeraj is not fit, he wrote, “Feeling strong and ready for Friday. Thanks for the support, everyone. See you in Lausanne! @athletissima.” A few days ago, he also posted a video of him training and climbing a pipe, which showed that he is completely fit and back in form.

The Lausanne Diamond League on August 26 will be the last tournament to qualify for the finals of the league that will be played in Zurich on September 7-8. Neeraj is currently at fourth rank as he won a silver medal at the Stockholm Diamond League. The event in Stockholm was his first time in the Diamond League in the last four years. After his second position in Oregon, he said he is keen to win the prestigious Diamond League.

Neeraj holds the national record and personal best of 89.94 m, which he hit in his last Diamond League encounter. Coming back from injury takes a toll on the body, but with the help of his coach Dr Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha, he seems ready to hit the 90 m mark. His rival and friend Arshad Nadeem also achieved this mark in the Birmingham Games, and now it is a chance for Chopra to achieve it.

Neeraj’s arch rival Anderson Peters will also be participating, along with high-class opponents like Jakub Vadlejch and Julian Weber. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem will skip the event due to an injury.
