“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer…” Jay Shah hits back at Langer and Ponting for India Coach Job

BCCI President Jay Shah has come out and said that the claims that the authorities have approached Australian cricketers to be India’s next coach are not true.

New Delhi: Amidst all the speculations and rumours as to who will be taking the charge of Indian National team, BCCI President Jay Shah has come out and said that the claims that the authorities have approached Australian cricketers to be India’s next coach are not true. Shah went on to add that the new coach who is scheduled to take charge can be an Indian as it is imperative to have a thorough understanding of the game in the country.

Rahul Dravid has reportedly shown his unwillingness to continue in the post of India’s head coach post the T20 World Cup in the Americas. However, players like Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer have also claimed that they are not interested in the job stating the huge work rate that comes along with managing a team like India.

“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian…”- Jay Shah

In the statement issued in public Shah made it clear that there has been no negotiation on behalf of the authorities towards any former Australian cricketers. When asked about the various reports that are floated around in the media, Shah defended that all those claims are completely inaccurate.

Furthermore, Shah justified that, “Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process…” According to the BCCI President, one of the fundamental criteria in selecting any individual will be a thorough knowledge of the domestic Indian circuit.

Catering to the demands of a billion cricket-frenzied people is not an easy task for any coach. Naturally, it becomes imperative that the person who is at the helm of affairs in India exhibits a strong sense of professionalism which has been reiterated by Shah. Moreover, with the kind of rich history that India has and the kind of priority gets in the sporting circuit, it becomes even more significant that the person who takes charge can carry on the burden of results as well as expectations.
