Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu ecstatic over meeting her family after 2 years

New Delhi: India’s daughter Mirabai Chanu, who made the nation proud by clinching silver at the Tokyo Olympics is finally getting to live her life.
Today, the weightlifting champion met her parents and family, after almost a span of 2 years. She termed the feeling as something beyond words.

Chanu returned to her hometown of Imphal on Tuesday and is now spending some time with her family.

“This feeling of meeting my family after a long span of 2 years is beyond words. I’m grateful to each one of you for showing faith in me and supporting me. Thank you, Ema and baba for all the sacrifices you made for me to reach this level,” Mirabai Chanu tweeted.


Chanu had opened India’s Olympic campaign by bagging silver medal in Women’s 49kg category at Tokyo International Forum.

Rousing reception for Chanu in Imphal

Chanu received a rousing welcome in Imphal as she reached her hometown on Tuesday..

Mirabai arrived in Imphal amid a roaring welcome by the people.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh welcomed her at the Imphal airport and also appointed her as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the police department.

“Mirabai Chanu would also be rewarded with Rs 1 crore as announced by the government,” Biren Singh had told media persons.
