Pat Cummins receives an underwhelming welcome at the Sydney airport, netizens react (Video)

The Australian World Cup winning captain was received by only a handful of fans at the airport upon his triumphant return.

New Delhi: The Australian skipper Pat Cummins returns to his home following his successful campaign at the ICC World Cup 2023, in India, where his team beat the hosts by 6 wickets in the finals, to win their record-extending sixth World Cup title.

However, the reception that he received at the airport of his hometown, i.e., Sydney, has left the whole Indian community on X (Formerly known as Twitter) bemused, as there were only a handful of people available at the airport to receive their World Cup winning hero.

Interestingly, India is a country that worships cricket as a religion, and the fans would have flocked every inch of the allowed area at the airport if this was the Indian captain returning after winning the World Cup title.

Hence, by default, the fans were by default surprised by such a cold welcome of the Australian skipper, upon his return to his country.

Many users are taking pride in their way of treating their heroes, while many are showing their surprise at this strange behaviour of the Aussie fans.

Check out, how the netizens on X (Formerly known as Twitter), reacted to the video of Pat Cummin’s homecoming.

As it happened

India and Australia, who played their first match of the ICC World Cup 2023, where the hosts defeated the visitors by 6 wickets, were once again face-to-face in the ultimate showdown of the tournament.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The Indian team was looking dangerous as always until the skipper Rohit Sharma (47) was at the crease, but as soon as Rohit was dismissed, the Aussie bowlers chocked the run flow of India and despite the fifties from KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54), the hosts only managed to post a subpar total of 240 on the board.

In reply, the Aussies lost three wickets under the 50 runs mark, but then Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschange (58*) stitched a 191-run partnership for the fourth wicket, ensuring Australia’s sixth World Cup title.
