PCB and BCCI in talks for ICC Champions Trophy after the SCO meeting…

The recent SCO meeting between S Jaishankar and the Pakistani High Commission has broken the ice between BCCI and PCB.

New Delhi: The recent SCO meeting between S Jaishankar and the Pakistani High Commission has broken the ice between BCCI and PCB. According to talks between PCB and BCCI, the Indian team may have the option to travel back to Delhi or Chandigarh after every match to quell their security issues.

The government minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, is said to have joined in at some point during these discussions. So far, there has been no confirmation on the part of the BCCI whether the Indian team will travel or not. However, the discussions and the subsequent gesture from the board suggest a positive approach for BCCI and PCB.

PCB Urges BCCI for…

According to the popular website, Cricbuzz, the PCB wrote the BCCI a letter pledging support for the Indian squad to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The letter also contained the provision to and fro from Pakistan to India if needed.

This arrangement was confirmed by a PCB official, who mentioned that the interval between the last two matches is over a week. So far the matches have been scheduled in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi. The authorities have assigned Lahore as the official venue of the India games. India’s matches in the Champions Trophy are lined up as:

  • February 20: India vs Bangladesh
  • February 23: India vs Pakistan
  • March 2: India vs New Zealand

India’s participation in the Champions Trophy is very critical for the flourishment of world cricket. If India withdraws, the competition will be significantly diminished in value in monetary terms. Without India, there will be a dearth of TV rights for the upcoming tournament.
