“PCB has no doubts, so why should we conduct an inquiry?”: PCB breaks silence on ‘match fixing’

PCB has declared that the accusations are ‘baseless’ and the comments are only made for ‘negative’ comments to malign the team.

New Delhi: The Pakistan cricket team has been in all sorts of trouble as a new set of allegations has come to the forefront. After the alleged case of spot-fixing came out, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) demanded ‘proof’ to show solid evidence for such malice. Furthermore, the board said that strenuous steps would be taken against anyone who dares to violate the sanctity of the game.

PCB has declared that the accusations are ‘baseless’ and the comments are only made for ‘negative’ comments to malign the team. Furthermore, the board added, “Criticism within the bounds of the game is acceptable and there is no objection to it. However, baseless allegations like match-fixing cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

So far, the board has been procrastinating about the fact to conduct a thorough investigation about the same. According to the officials, there is a cent per cent in the official functioning of the board. Naturally, the board seeks evidence of making such hasty and fuzzy statements. Furthermore, the board has issued an official statement that such hasty and inconclusive statements can have dire consequences.

Is there any scope for match-fixing?

The question that remains to be investigated is whether there is a scope for match-fixing or not. According to senior journalist Mubasir Lucman, Babar was gifted an Audi e-Tron GT which easily costs around 7-8 crores in Pakistani currency. How can a cricketer who has a contract of some lakhs get a gift which is more than 10-20 times his yearly accrued revenue?

Furthermore, Mubasir went on to add “Then somebody told me that if you lose to small teams, even then you will not get plots, cars then who will get? I told the person that these are serious allegations. He told me everyone knows who is doing what.

Although thorough investigations remain to be seen, Pakistan’s internal mess is getting accentuated day by day to include these unclear topics into the ambit of cricketing discussion.
