PCB set to revert back to old selection committee system after poor WC performance

To prevent the situation from getting out of hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to bring in the old selection committee system in place.

New Delhi: To prevent the situation from getting out of hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to bring in the old selection committee system in place. According to the old system a chief selector along with two to three selectors. Furthermore, it has also been decided that neither the captain nor the head coach will be part of any selection meeting of the team. However, Wahab Riyaz who was one of the architects of the current Pakistan side which went to the WC is expected to retain his position.

Wahab has been a close aide of the current PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. Naturally, Naqvi has a lot of trust in Wahab and will look to entrust the overhaul of the new process under the watchful eyes of Riyaz. Interestingly, Riyaz was also part of the old system before PCB decided to revoke it and put more power in the hands of the Captain and the Head Coach. A few stakeholders were also involved in these ‘close door’ selections like Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab, Asad Shafiq, and Abdul Razzaq.

Currently, Pakistan follows a very opaque system with the head coach and the captain making the bulk of the decisions including the selection of players. Naturally, there has been an alleged case of ‘favouritism’ by Babar Azam in the camp which has led to an internal feud with fellow Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi.

“..Players, who have central contracts..”: Former PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf drops the bombshell!

Rather than worrying about the selection committee, players are busy figuring out who can continue playing with the national side. According to ex-PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, the board can decide to terminate the contract of many senior cricketers after such a pathetic display during the World Cup.

Furthermore, Zaka also revealed that the various favours and perks that players get for their service to the national team will also be given a ‘look’.
