‘Political Shift’ has echoed in the corridors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as well as Khaled Mahmud resigned as the director of the BCB on Wednesday.

New Delhi: ‘Political Shift’ has echoed in the corridors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as well as Khaled Mahmud resigned as the director of the BCB on Wednesday. The story was confirmed by a top official of BCB to Cricbuzz.

Mahmud won the elections back in 2013 defeating Gazi Ashraf Hossain in 2013. Subsequently, Mahmud served three terms as the director of BCB for three terms before resigning due to political instability. Earlier, Bangladesh saw a dramatic change in their political future as former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from the country.

Subsequently, the sympathisers of Hasina and her Awami League were systematically removed from important positions. The ripple effect of the same has now reached cricketing circles.

Mahmud- the Long time server of Bangladeshi Cricket

Khaled Mahmud has been a long-time server of Bangladeshi cricket, often making important and notable contributions to the national team. One of the most significant achievements under the guidance of Khaled Mahmud was the U-19 World Cup. Under his leadership was Bangladesh’s Under-19 team clinching the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020 thereby defeating India in the finals.

Beyond his role as a director, Mahmud also acted as the interim head coach and team manager of the Bangladesh national cricket team on multiple occasions. Apart from Mahmud, Nazmul Hassan also resigned from his position as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The departure of such important people from Bangladesh cricket is bound to have a profound impact on the cricketing trajectory of the country. But for now, things look smooth as Bangladesh thrashed Pakistan in a 2-0 series whitewash. The Tigers are currently scheduled to play India from 19th September.
