PR Sreejesh set to join Manu Bhaker as flagbearer for India at closing ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024

New Delhi: PR Sreejesh is set to join Manu Bhaker in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 as the flagbearer of India. It will be a fitting honour to the contribution of Sreejesh who announced his retirement post the bronze medal match at Paris Olympics 2024.

Before confirming Sreejesh’s position in the role of flagbearer, the IOA Chief PT Usha had a word with Neeraj Chopra. Chopra was anticipated to be the flagbearer along with Manu Bhaker. Surprisingly, the young javelin thrower also wanted the veteran hockey goalkeeper as the flagbearer of the Indian contingent.

In a recent statement from PT Usha, the IOA chief said “He told me ‘Ma’am, even if you had not asked me, I would have suggested Sree bhai’s name’…” Usha further added that the contributions that Sreejesh has made to the national side has automatically made the veteran the forerunner in the post both ’emotionally and popularly’.

Earlier, Sreejesh had won the bronze medal with the Indian team defeating the Spanish team 2-1. It was a fitting tribute to the long term custodian of Indian hockey who is leaving the pitch with 2 Olympic bronze medals to his name (Tokyo 20 and Paris 24). Interestingly, Sreejesh was also the flagbearer during the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
