SA20 League to have auctions on September 19, check all you need to know

The teams had a chance to pick five players in a pre-auction direct-acquisition process. Out of the 30 players listed in the pre-auction, 23 were picked by the teams.

New Delhi: Cricket South Africa is ready to put up its own T20 league, this time with the help of wealthy investors and better planning. SA20 league will be a fun league to watch as all six teams have been bought by IPL franchise owners. The tournament will be held in January-February 2023 and will be played across the six cities the teams represent.

 

The player auction for the league will take place on September 19 in Cape Town. All six teams, MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape will participate in it.

A total of 533 players have been listed while each team can have a maximum of 17 players. The teams had a chance to pick five players in a pre-auction direct-acquisition process. Out of the 30 players listed in the pre-auction, 23 were picked by the teams. Out of the 533 listed players, 248 are South Africans.

Franchises are permitted to get to seven international players and ten South African players with a total of US$2 million in their purse. West Indians Jayden Seales and Odean Smith have the highest base price of RAND 17,50,000 ($ 1,01,000). Meanwhile, foreign players including Eoin Morgan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Tymal Mills, Chamika Karunarathne, David Willey and Jimmy Neesham have a base price of RAND 17,00,000 ($ 98,000) and South Africans Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Temba Bavuma, Tabrez Shamsi and six other have a base price of RAND 8,50,000 ($ 49,000).
