New Delhi: Bangladesh’s number 1 all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has etched his name on the leaderboards as he became the oldest player for Bangladesh to feature in a test match. As Shakib took the field on Day 3 on Saturday against India, the left-hand allrounder was aged 37 years and 181 days. Shakib overtook the record of another left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique who last played for Bangladesh in Test in 2008 at the age of 37 years and 180 days.

Shakib has been a pivotal figure in Bangladeshi cricket for more than a decade. Together with Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, the trio has come to form the backbone of Bangladeshi cricket. Furthermore, Shakib has made contributions to franchise cricket as well, playing for various franchises around the world.

While Shakib remains the oldest player for Bangladesh, England’s Wilfred Rhodes remains the oldest player to play test cricket on the international stage. Rhodes played his final test when he was 52 years and 165 days back in 1930!
