New Delhi: After missing out on a much-deserved bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has finally announced her retirement from gymnastics. Dipa’s Olympic attempt heralded a revolution in the entire country for the sport of gymnastics in the country. It also put Tripura, the home state of Dipa on the geographical memory of the Indian viewers.


The 31-year-old Dipa, who became the first female gymnast from the country to compete at the Olympics, finished fourth in the vault event to lose an Olympic medal by just 0.15 points!

In her latest post on X (formerly Twitter), Dipa Karmakar wrote-

After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from competitive gymnastics. This is not an easy decision, but it feels like the right time…
