Sourav Ganguly takes shot at Ajay Jadeja after Glenn Maxwell’s heroics

Ajay Jadeja was appointed by Afghanistan cricket board as the assistant coach for ICC World Cup 2023.

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and captain Sourav Ganguly took a dig at his former teammate and Afghanistan cricket team’s assistant coach Ajay Jadeja after his side suffered a dramatic loss against Australia on Tuesday.

Ganguly, in an interview, said, “Ajay Jadeja must be crying. They bowled too much into his pads. He was only standing and slogging. They had to bowl wide. Don’t want to take anything away from Maxwell. Probably the Greatest ODI innings you’ll see.”

“Afghanistan bowled too straight to Maxwell, should have bowled at the 7th stump because he was injured and could not reach the ball,” the former captain added.

The comments made by Sourav Ganguly were only a sarcastic taunt towards his former teammate in the form of a friendly banter.

The loss eventually resulted in Afghanistan getting bowed out of the ICC World Cup 2023, semifinals race and putting an end to their Cinderella run at the World Cup.

Jadeja, in a viral video, was seen celebrating early wickets of the Aussie team by dancing in the dressing room.

Maxwell mayhem

The Australian maestro, Glenn Maxwell, played one of the greatest innings of cricket history when he played a match-winning knock of 201 not-out in just 128 balls to chase down the 291 runs target given to them by the Afghanistan team with 3 wickets and 19 balls to spare.

At one point, the Australian team were struggling at 91 for 7 when Glenn Maxwell (201*), along with his skipper Pat Cummins (12*), added a 202 not-out partnership, to take his team home and confirm their spot in the semifinals.

What makes Maxwell’s innings more beautiful is that for the entirety of his innings, he was cramping, so much so that his legs weren’t moving, but he kept hitting the big shots to win the match for his team.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first, and with the help of Ibrahim Zadran’s not-out, 129 runs innings, posted a huge total of 291 runs on the board.
