New Delhi: South Africa and Sri Lanka are set to play a pivotal test match which can alter the World Test Championship (WTC). The Proteas can become the leaders in the WTC standings if they manage to win their next 4 home test matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will also fancy their chances to crawl back into the WTC standings after displaying phenomenal form against New Zealand back at home. The Lankan team has seen a resurgence under the tutelage of their legendary cricketer, Sanath Jayasuriya and will look to go all the way through to the WTC finals.
Head-to-head record between South Africa and Sri Lanka
South Africa and Sri Lanka have met 31 times in Test cricket with the former leading the head-to-head record 16-9 win six draws. Furthermore, South Africa also completed a 2-0 sweep at home in the last series between the two teams in 2021.
However, Sri Lanka won the previous two series, once in 2018 (home) and another in 2019 (away). Interestingly, this was the first test that the Lankans were marking their first Test series win in South Africa.
