Surya Kumar Yadav to Jasprit Bumrah, check out what was the first IPL salary of current Indian T20 stalwarts

Most of the top T20 stars on India were picked on their base price during the auctions.

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League has created a bunch of stars for International cricket through their innovative and competitive format of the game, which provides young players with a big stage to enhance their title even before they have actually started donning their national teams’ jerseys.

Although the whole glamorous display of the tournament comes from the already famous names that come from all around the globe, every season, we get at least one name, who was unknown to players before the start of the season but turns out to be a household name by the end of that season.

Sometimes these names turn out to be one or two-season wonders, but sometimes they become so consistent with their performance, that they not only become one of the most sought names in IPL history but go on to big a mammoth of a name in the international circuit also.

Usually, these starts who started their journey with the minimum possible price, become the most expensive players of the tournament.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 of these T20 stalwarts from India, who became legends after starting from scratch.

1] Surya Kumar Yadav

Everyone in the world knows Surya Kumar Yadav as one of the greatest players ever to set foot in T20 cricket. The right-handed, in just two years of his international career, has already become an absolute legend of the format.

But to everyone’s surprise, Surya’s first ever IPL salary was only INR 10 lakhs, which he received from Pune Warriors India in the year 2012. He went on to play for KKR and MI, from where he became the man we all know at the moment.

2] Jasprit Bumrah

An unknown player from Gujarat, with nothing too impressive to show, joined the Mumbai Indians squad in 2013. No one knew what kind of talent this young boy possessed, except the Mumbai Indians’ scouting squad.

Finally, when Bumrah was given the chance, he grabbed it with both arms open, to go from unknown Bumrah to Boom Boom Bumrah in a matter of years.

Interestingly, Bumrah’s first salary in 2013 was the minimum possible salary of that time which was, INR 10 lakhs.

3] KL Rahul

Just like Bumrah, KL Rahul also entered the IPL in 2013, with a similar sum of his first salary, which was, INR 10 lakhs.

Rahul, who was just a domestic player at the time he was bought, went on to become one of the biggest names in T20 cricket history and also the stand-in captain for the Indian team on many occasions.

4] Rishabh Pant

The southpaw from Delhi was a little less unknown than the ones who have already featured in the list below, as under Rahul Dravid’s coaching, the future T20 stalwart, caught the eyes of everyone with his unorthodox playing style in the U-19 World Cup.

Pant was bought by Delhi Capitals in 2016, for a pretty decent price for an uncapped player, i.e., 1.90 crores. Pant went to become a huge name in T20 cricket, so much so that he is the skipper of the Delhi Capitals franchise at the moment.

5] Shreyas Iyer

Just like Pant, Shreyas Iyer was also a little less unknown player in the people’s eyes, before joining the IPL, as he was crushing it at the domestic stage, across the formats over almost a year.

The effects were visible on his price tag, as he became the most expensive uncapped player of that time, when the Delhi Capitals franchise bought him at INR 2.60 cores, in 2015.
